Helen Erikson, 1983

•Nurse seeks to understand the uniqueness of a patient and their perspectives or “models.”
•Role modeling is the process that the nurse uses to provide assistance to the patient to attain, maintain and promote health.
•The nurse has 3 main roles: Facilitation, nurturance and unconditional acceptance of the patient.
•The 5 aims for nursing intervention include:
1) Build Trust
2) Promote patient’s positive orientation
3) Promote patient's control
4) Affirm and promote the patient’s strength
