Recommendation #2 Expand opportunities for nurses to lead and diffuse collaborative improvement efforts.
With this recommendation there is a greater need for nurses to have a voice and to effectively communication with members of the interdisciplinary team.
This recommendation state that nurses should lead and collaborate more with physicians colleagues to design new models of care or improve existing care delivery models, and to conduct research; to collaborate to address the patient’s needs and optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
Previously the nurse was responsible for developing the patient’s plan of care. In the future, it will be the interdisciplinary teams to collectively create the patient’s plan of care.
Enhanced technology is needed to communicate with patients and families. Electronic information systems will enable sharing of patient information, data exchange and electronic communication with patients.
